Tree Hugger

Just as I left work this evening the sun came out, that almost never happens! We took the opportunity to head back to Belfairs Woodland so I could do some tree hugging. 🌳🌲🌳🌲

The term ‘tree hugger’ has often been used to refer to a hippie or someone with a love for nature but some believe the term actually originates from 1730.

Many believe the first tree huggers belonged to the Bishnois branch of Hinduism who died trying to protect the trees in their village from being turned into building material by literally clinging on to the trees. The action they took eventually led to a royal decree prohibiting the cutting of trees in their villiage.

Nowdays the term ‘tree-hugger’ is often used as a derogatory way of describing someone who loves nature, personally I think it’s awesome! (…and scientifically it’s really good for you! ☺️)
